What is AI Literacy?
AI literacy is understanding how AI works, using it responsibly, and evaluating its impact, so people can make smart and ethical choices in a world influenced by AI.
Educators have an ethical responsibility to their students to teach AI literacy.
What does AI Literacy look like?
According to the AI Literacy Framework for Primary and Secondary Education created by the European Commission and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), those who are AI literate can:
Engage with AI
Individuals understand that AI is not a human and learns from examples. Individuals can also notice when AI is helpful (or not) and when answers are fair (or biased).
Create with AI
Individuals can collaborate with AI to brainstorm, revise, and edit work. They can explain how AI helped them and where their creative voice can be found in the work.
Manage AI
Individuals can write prompts or questions that match their tasks. The individual knows when questions need to be changed or updated, and the answers given are always checked against trusted websites.
Design AI
Individuals can understand and shape AI’s behavior with the understanding that the choice what people make when building AI change how it works.
